Can Giardia have an effect on dogs behavior such as biting and spinning?

Our dog is on the proper medication for Giardia. Every so often he starts spinning, growling and even biting. Is this a symptom or side effect of the medication?

Hi Karen,
The most common medications used to treat giardia in dogs are fenbendazole and metronidazole. While these medications are generally well-tolerated, side effects are possible. However, the behaviors you describe (spinning, growling, and biting) are not common side effects of these medications.
There are many potential causes for these behaviors, such as stress, anxiety, fear, or even an underlying medical issue. It's important to consult with your veterinarian to discuss these behaviors, rule out any potential side effects, and explore other possible causes. Your vet may recommend additional tests, behavioral modifications, or other treatments based on their assessment.
