Reader Question:: How to Diagnose and Treat Hives on Dogs that is accompanied with shaking?
My dog has hives all over his body. They look like dime shaped raised hair but there is also a bump on his skin. He is also shaking and wont come inside... his behavior is abnormal and he will only lay on the cool concrete of the patio. I'm getting worried. i can't tell if he's in pain. It's Christmas day so the vet wont be in until Monday and i'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
Suggestion from our VeterinarianHello,
Of course I can’t diagnose what is going on with your dog without first having the opportunity to examine him, but based on your description it sounds as if he might be having an
allergic reaction.
It certainly wouldn’t hurt to rinse him off with cool water just in case there is a foreign substance on his fur or skin (plus the cool water will probably just feel good).
You’ll need to keep a close on your dog. If his condition deteriorates (he becomes weak, has trouble breathing, becomes less responsive, etc.), you’ll need to get him to the nearest veterinarian who is open as quickly as possible. Otherwise, give your veterinarian a call as soon as possible with an update on your dog’s symptoms.
Best of luck,
