Dog Skin Bumps Above Eye

Reader Question Hi there! My French Bulldog, Walter is nine months old and is an intact male. He is up to date on all his vaccinations and is a very healthy pup.

There have been no changes in his diet or routine. He did get treated for an ear infection two months ago. He has these three flesh colored bumps above his right eye. He’s had them for several months. At first, I thought it was a little mole, but then there were three of them and they seem to have gotten larger.

What are they? Is this something I should be worried about?

Suggestion From Our Veterinarian for Treating a Skin Bump Above The Eye

Hi Stacie,

Walter will need to be seen by a veterinarian for diagnosis of his skin bumps. The list of potential causes for skin lesions like his is quite long.

Your veterinarian will start with a physical exam and will probably want to run a few simple and inexpensive laboratory tests including a skin scraping to rule out mange mites (Demodex, Sarcoptes, and others), skin cytology to identify yeast or bacterial infections, and a fungal culture for ringworm.

This is usually all that is needed to identify the cause of a puppy’s skin problems, but in some cases, skin biopsies or testing for environmental and food allergies are also necessary.

Good luck!
